Personally, I think it's good from an SBL perspective and I'm glad they're trialling the change. It brings them in line other competitions (ie SEABL) and stops teams from loading up with both NBL players and imports.
With the NBL players in particular, it has been a bit deflating in previous seasons to see them depart on the eve of the play offs - when you want your teams to be at their best.
I've heard some people make a case that NBL players who are playing for their junior clubs should be exempt from the rule (ie Hire with Wanneroo, Tovey with Willetton) - which I think adds some interest to the debate.

I thought i read Hire is exempt as has limited minutes at NBL level?
I will be heading down to the PS Blitz on Friday night and Sunday arvo before the Cats game.... am looking forward to it.

Greg won't be affected by the rule this season but the potential that it could impact him in the future is there, which is why it has caused some discussion.

We have it in Waratah League in NSW, however considering that most teams don't have two players who average >10mpg in the NBL, it's no issue.
How many WA SBL teams would be affected here?
SD.

Based on last season, not too many.
I'm not sure of the average minutes played, but I'm assuming Wagner and Hire were the only NBL player in the league last season who averaged less than 10mpg.
The teams that would have been affected last season (from memory) are:
Wanneroo: two restricted players and Brad Robbins.
Willetton: one restricted player, Matt Knight and Cam Tovey (though Tovey didn't play due to injury).
Perry Lakes: two restricted players and Peter Crawford.
This season:
Wanneroo were able to have one of their restricted players re-classified as he was an Aussie who had represented Ireland (Matacz). This has allowed the Wolves to keep Damian, sign an import and leave a spot open for Robbins should he return.
Willetton have gone with two American imports.
Perry Lakes have gone with two imports. Crawford only played a limited amount of games for the team, which he'll be unable to do this season given the restrictions.

In regards to last year, you can add East Perth to the list. They started the season with two imports, however they sent him home injured and replaced him with Drew Williamson.
Looking at the teams this year, the only clubs that could (possibly) be affected would be Willetton (two imports, Tovey) and Perry Lakes (two imports, Crawford). However I doubt either Tovey or Crawford were ever going to play SBL in 2012 anyway. East Perth haven't decided on a second import yet, which leaves the door ajar for Williamson.
So really, to answer Skindog's question, the new ruling isn't going to be that relevant, in particular in 2012.
