This could all lead to nothing as very little has been said by Lauren but the Canberra Capitals are hoping to sign Jackson on a 5 year contract which will see her playing 3 seasons in Canberra.

Was Batkovic signed for only one season? If more, a Jackson/Batkovic and possibly Tolo combination would be lethal.

HM - 5 - years, 3 seasons -- there's at least 2 more championships at only about $250K each. or 3 at $150K - with the current exchange rate that sounds good. - go Caps

Love Loz but I'd prefer see the Caps spend their money (and other peoples) retaining the likes of Wilson, Tolo, Batkovic and Hunt.
Then again is $1million value for money if it's stops Tom Maher from coaching another championship winning team?
A big resounding YES from me to that one.

Surely the money spent for Jackson would be separate from that of the other players. Last year the Caps were still able to have Wilson, Tolo etc while also being able to sign Jackson for extra money. Surely Graf knows Canberra can't win with Jackson alone.

It would be interesting to know how long she thinks her body is going to hold up? Maybe there is a notional shelf-life suggested by the 5 year term of the deal?

I think her body would hold up. Its not like the WNBA play 82 games a season or anything like that. Players may get older and slower, but they generally stay the same height. Jackson at 6'5 will have value for a long time yet, the question is how much.

The WNBA season being as intensive as it is, is just a part of it. Remember the Worlds, she was exhausted and that was on the back of a season in which she was fitter than she'd been in 4 years. Nobody needs that - least of all her. It's the mix and match of her European Season commitments and the WNBL season commitments on top of the WNBA season that worry me. Not to mention expectations we all have that she'll still be fit enough to be in two more Olympics and hopefully two more Worlds. But I guess there'll be limited games in Russia and the WNBL - she can't be in two places at once. Hopefully the deal allows for her to tailor her playing commitments.

None of the money for Loz will come from the Capitals. It will come from the ACT Governement and other big ACT businesses, in return for promotional obligations. It's a great deal for Loz, great for the Caps players and fans and a nightmare for every other team in the WNBL
Being a Caps fans, It's all good :).

i am pretty sure if batkovic and Jackson are signed then Tolo will be leaving. there is no way she will want to be coming off the bench at a club now. she would probably think of herself as a starter, and so would many other clubs

Tolo won't be going anywhere. ;) If the Caps get Jackson, there will be changes in the Caps line up, but Tolo will stay at Canberra.

I guess Tolo and Batkovic could share the post and Jackson could play the three spot?

And what if bishop returns the caps as is looming on the horizon? I am sure the caps would like to keep Tolo but it gets down to whether Tolo, who many regard as an All-star five selection this season, is prepared to step back to the bench. If she were a senior (in age) player with the caps this might be possible but i cannot see why a young emerging player would want to move so far down the the Caps pecking order.

I don't think Bishop should go back to Canberra. She left the Caps for greener pastures elsewhere so it would be a bit strange for her to crawl back after a mediocre season for another team. I like Bishop and I would like to see her play for Canberra again. But she should give Europe a go. This is what she should have done this season when she decided to leave Canberra.
I'm not sure if Jackson will be playing for Canberra next season anyway. From my interpretations of her half time interview, she was very keen to "make as much money" as she could in the next few years as she probably has five or six more good seasons left in her. I think this is a very reasonable and understanding comment. As Europe is where the big money is, I think it will be hard for Canberra to put up a good enough offer for her to stay in Australia during the WNBA off-season. Realistically, I'm sure the Canberra community will put up a competitive offer, but it just couldn't be as much as what a European club could produce.
Jackson wants to "make as much money" to a point, does anyone really think that if the West Coast Waves offered her $2M for 3 seasons over 5 years that she would be in the green and black?

She has always been quite up front about this, if you ask her what she would say to that offer, it would be yes ( unless caps or townsville or east suva were offering more in real terms).
And so she should - to make enough to "retire" by the time you are 35 - and she does want to do a Timms in respect of having a family - so money is an issue.

Yeah, who could blame her?
The #1 female basketballer in the world doesn't exactly earn retirement money in a single season the way the men do. The end of her professional career is in sight so it's only sensible that she tries to maximise her earning potential.

Agree completely. Just wondering openly if it is an open market for her services?
I don't care either way.
But if the money is coming from the ACT government or is going to cost players at the local association more money then I am 100% against it in every way.
