Opening up this thread so as not to clutter the official pick thread with chatter.

Can I ask, would anybody else have taken PC before the 15th pick? Just interested as to whether I jumped the gun on him.

Funnily enough i had Sav at #1, who would have guessed that :P

My rankings of those gone so far.

1- Saville
2- Anstey
3- Horvath
4- Dusty
15- Mee
24- Puter Crawford
39- Burgess

PC was #2 in my rankings but I've just realised I made a monumental stuffup with the TO calculations. He now ends up 11th. Bugger.

BTW, my corrected formulas have Sav at #3. Anstey was #5, but of course his stats were just based on guesstimates.

I have Anstey pegged for .500 FG%, .740 FT%, 18.0 pts, 0.5 threes, 10.0 reb, 2.5 ast, 0.8 stl, 2.0 blk, 2.6 TO. I'm guessing the guys who've taken him at #1 are expecting more?

It was a toss up between him or Whorebath, but I didn't want to come across all Southern Joe.

im expecting 20+ from him, but also, he's a C (most importantly) with good ft%, passing and 3pt range, making him invaluable.

I'm not so worried about centres this season, because with Skindog's "no two centres until five rounds have passed" rule, the worst one you can end up with is somebody like Ben Melmeth.

jesuc jexus
26-08-2005, 04:46 PM
i should probably read the rules. hehe, but fair enough, i was just thinking about having some extra oomph in those cats from a spot you wouldnt normally get them. couldnt be frigged with a draft list/sheet thing this year. just scouring the stats at random moments

I had Horvath last year in League 2, got him at like 29 or something stupid. 8)

PC @ 6? I would have him as my 3rd round pick, maybe Stumps thinks he's on for a breakout year without Ricky Grace around. :?

Well, based on last season's performances (and projections for new or returning players), PC is the 11th ranked player and Horvath is 24th. Let me explain the way rotisserie works.

With PC, you're getting somebody who's above average in FG% (.483 vs .444), FT% (.709 vs .700), rebounding (6.4 rpg vs 4.6 rpg) and scoring (15.9 ppg vs 10.5 ppg) He was 2nd in the league in steals per game, 9th in threes, 19th in blocks and 17th in assists. He was the only player in the league last season to be above average in all eight of these categories. The only place he hurts you is turnovers, where unfortunately he led the league, but when I picked him I had turnovers counting positively rather than negatively, which explains my stuffup.

Incidentally, Casey Calvary was the top-ranked current player based on last season's stats, with incredible ratings for FG% (.604), blocks (2.85) and, uncharacteristically for a centre, steals (1.95). Throw in 17.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg and an average .695 FT shooting, and you can see why he's so valuable in the rotisserie context. So I fluffed up my first round pick a little but got potentially got lucky in the second.

Kingshood
27-08-2005, 05:38 AM
Calvary is also one hell of a turnover bitch however.

I nearly took Calvary with my last pick, but have decided to take a different route with the Centre Drafting rule.

T-Rich
27-08-2005, 05:23 PM
I had Calvary last year - he had a fantastic first half of the year, then faded a bit after that. If he had kept it going, he would be worthy of a top 5 pick.

jesuc jexus
27-08-2005, 06:27 PM
is leon a access from work person only?

gretchen
27-08-2005, 07:11 PM
Well do we have a cut off for him? We've not even made it through two rounds yet. Skindog? When do you make the choice for him? Because this is going to lead to a really long MSN draft tomorrow, and I'd rather get some high picks out of the way, rather than only have 90 seconds to pick all but one spot on my team.

Cousin Of Topcat
27-08-2005, 07:33 PM
IAW gretchen.

Leon shoul have p.m'ed Skindog some picks in case he wasn't here, like i'm sure a few of us did. :(

If he's not done by 12.21am tomorrow (12 hours after my pick), make a pick and let's move on.

The .428 shooting and practically zero assists, steals and blocks don't help. He gives points and rebounds but nothing else.

Cousin Of Topcat
28-08-2005, 12:46 AM
Yeah, he couldn't block for shit. :(

But he could certainly board, I had an 18 rebound game or two and that was worth having him.

just on the position listings, one that slipped under the radar for me is grabau at G. he split the sf possy 50/50 with boods last season. there are a few guys that played plenty of sf that are listed as guards too. newley for example. with JR and a pg occupying the guard spots i reckon he'll play the majority of his minutes at sf

Yeah, I explained that at the start of the position list -- even though their team might be playing them at a certain position this season, I tried to give them the position they'd ordinarily play on an NBL team, and most teams would have guys like Newley and Grabau at SG.

Besides, now that the Cat is in Cairns, and Stewart is not the focal point that he once was, you'd have to expect there'd be a few more minutes available to the likes of Grabau at SG rather than just SF.

29 - hogeburger mcbradtke

What? Hoges went at 29? What a steal, anok.

He's still one of the top 3 centres in the league. Who's better? Anstey - probably. Horvath - maybe (but only in a VGM sense). Rogers - nope. Calvary - maybe (but not by much if he is).

jesuc jexus
28-08-2005, 05:09 PM
i'm guessing his health has scared people off, though i think i read he was looking fit and raring to go in another thread. i think the bullets' depth will help him a lot. brannen has played plenty of 5, so he wont be ground into the ground like he was in melbourne. still, its a bit of a punt as there were 'safer' options, but he carried the inhalers to the title 2 seasons back after i drafted him at 3. his numbers might drop off a little, but he's a smart passer and with plenty of talent around him he should get plenty. hopefully he's been working on his fts too

Skindog the Hawk
28-08-2005, 05:10 PM
He's an injury risk though, and also who knows how many minutes per game he'll play in Wright's system?? My guess is he'll come back to 30mpg, but if he goes down, then it's anyone's guess and then Jason Eversteyn might become a bit more valuable... 8)
