In team selection news (from Members email) -
"With the exception of Lisa Pardon the complete cast is back. The addition of past Boomer MVP Shelly Hammonds and young AIS gun Alice Kunek"
Giving the Boomers 4 bigs - Cambage, Penaluna, Hammonds and Jarry. That's huge.

You don't class Kunek as a big?

Absolutely not. Nor Jarry for that matter. How tall is Hammonds?

To be honest, couldn't find any info on her before posting.
Cambage is 5, Penaluna and Hammonds are 4/5's and Jarry is probably a 3/4. Given the lack of height in the league, Jarry can play 4.

Kunek at 187cms must be classed as a tall surely. Ellie Manou is a centre at 190cms. Kunek might not have the bulk but Im sure they will play her at tall in the minutes she gets.
Jarry is 185cms and Hammonds is listed as 188cms.
Giving the Boomers 5 bigs - Cambage, Penaluna, Hammonds, Jarry, Kucek. That's massive. :)
Oh really? :???:

I don't know what Michele has been doing for the past 10 years, but this is out there. Wonder if Tom was inspired by Detroit dragging Nancy Lieberman out of the commentary box a couple of season ago.
I say this with the utmost respect for Timmsy, who is a true ledge, but surely there are plenty of capable point guards in Melbourne of all places, who could step into the team for a while and hold their own. All they need to be able to do is play a little D, get the ball up the court, and execute a lob pass to Cambage ;)
Love the idea. Worth a try at training at least to see if her fitness is up to a reasonable level. I assume she would be used as a backup to Kylie Reid who I thought had a great game on Saturday afternoon and deserves a chance to start (or backup Jenna if Tom wants to go with Jenna and Hannah as the guards).
Timmsy knows the plays and the players which someone from outside would not. If nothing else it gets people talking about the WNBL, which has been very quiet this year.

According to the article where Maher's quote appeared, O'Hea has a hip problem. Maybe the reason Timms is even being considered. And that unhappily, raises the talking point of the WNBL season so far - the injuries!
Logan's Cassie Smith dislocated a patella during the Sydney game apparently, to end what must have been one of the most injury ridden opening rounds ever in the WNBL.
I wouldn't like to see Timms have to suit up again after almost a decade out of the game and I don't believe Maher is serious about this at all. I wonder if roster depth will end up being the key ingredient for eventual success this year?

There are not many PG's left in Melbourne as most of the good ones from the SEABL are playing WNBL already. However Timms could NOT be the best option for the team.

Im positive that Lauren Jeffers will get the PG spot. Makes more sense than Timms.

Whikle we all know Sharin Milner broke her collarbone in last weekend's season-opening loss to Canberra Capitals, guard Jenna O'Hea could miss more than a month after hip surgery this week!
Big lossses.
According to the Hearld-Sun, the Boomers have signed ex Ranger Amelia Todhunter

Strange that Dandenong released Todhunter. She isnt a bad player and weird they waited until now to release her, especially after her injury problems last season. I guess Bulleen would like that though.
