View Full Version : The return of a Brisbane team seems unlikely for next season

After months of positive speculation regarding a Brisbane team returning to the league next season, Sengstock mentioned in his latest interview that time may run out for the proposal. Some people on this forum have gone so far as saying it's a done deal, so it would be extremely disappointing for this to fall over yet again. I can't recall a more tumultuous and farcical set of circumstances regarding a team folding then supposedly being resurrected. From Eddy handing back to the license to the David Logan fiasco it is honestly becoming hard to take and a case of disappointment after disappointment.
The probable parties involved have been disclosed so there seems to be structure, so I can't see what the holdup is. I am happy to stand corrected if somebody in the know can shed more light on the situation and the likelihood of Brisbane returning for next season. I'm sure all long suffering Bullets fans(including me) would be extremely grateful for any conclusive information.
"although the Brisbane team might be cutting it fine to make a commitment in time for next season."
"We've got a good group we're working with in Sydney," Sengstock said.
"We're hopeful they'll be in a position to play next season, but with Brisbane, time is the issue and their planning is not as advanced as Sydney."

Wonder if this has anything to do with ex Bullets GM Jeff Van Gronigen being at the Hawks game on wednesday ?
Someone on here mentioned Easter didn't they? A terrible wait. But hopefully they will be certain at that point.

According to todays Cairns Post "the NBL is determined to capitalise on the publicity surrounding its playoffs by releasing the makeup of its 2010-11 league next month".
Assuming that's correct, you would think the latest the announcement would be made would be at the conclusion of the playoffs (early March ?).

It's hard to know who to believe lately.
I was cool with Larry before, but he seems to have been won over by the "tell 'em what they wanna hear" BS machine of late.
It'd be a shame if the Bullets don't get a fair go through "time restrictions", when other teams have had some leniency (which I think's a good thing) in the past.
Times are tough in the financial world & it would be counterproductive to kill off any hope of a team making it because "the NBL is determined to capitalise on the publicity surrounding its playoffs by releasing the makeup of its 2010-11 league next month".

...... In the Brave New NBL ... at least there are time restrictions & such that are actually adhered to . Much kudos to the NBL even though that was possibly to the one week detriment of a lifeline for the Kings.

Dude, read the title of the thread. It isn't about the Kings!

Sid mate, you know I love yah, but if you're gonna float the Kings turd at every opportunity, then I'm hitting the full flush button.
That may not be a responsible action with our limited resources, but it's "user pays", & I'm cashed up. :p

Can guarantee JVG has nothing directly to do with the resurrection of the Bullets, but yes he was at the Hawks game although the reason was the people he was there with. More of "why" he was there will be announced in 2 weeks time ... stay tuned.

Wonder if it would have more to do with a Sydney-based bid to enter the league in 2010/11...considering there were a couple of New South Welshmen with him as well ;)

He's hung out with Cal heaps of times and Carfino was probably there watching the closest game of live basketball he can access.

I thought Carfino was supposedly going back to the US to do college basketball commentary after being sacked by Fox?

Then give yourself a high five for being in the inner sanctum of the NBL's best kept secrets and for feeling the need to post that fact on a forum to make yourself look good and annoy everybody else. You da man...

I'm not the only one in the thread that has indicated that there is something in the works that will be exciting now am I?
I've been told a bit by one of the people involved, but asked to keep it confidential. I don't know the finer points on it, and with being asked not to say anything I won't. I would rather the facts be given out.
