Perth, can they back it up after a good win against the Tigers?
its just a feeling, but Hawks by 6points.

I really expected the Hawks to be a stronger team than what they have shown so far this year.
With so many experienced players who have been winners with other teams I am quite shocked at some of the performances that key players have mustered up.
The Wildcats have a great roster but have two players out through injury and are coming off a tough away game only days ago.
On perhaps the basis of blind loyalty I pick the Hawks to finally gel as a team and beat the Wildcats by 9.

I think the Hawks will lift their intesity tonight and win by double figues. GO YOU HAWKIES!

I went down last week to watch the Hawks/Dragons game and a lot of the Hawks players looked like they didn't want to be there, they lacked intensity the whole night.
With that kind of attitude it's hard to see them winning tonight

I hope so. Their performance against the dragons was one of the worst i have seen. I agree in thinking they are capable of being a stronger team than what they have shown but whether or not they come through with the goods.... we'll have to wait and see.
no disrespect to cookie but i dont think he is up to the job of a head coach in this league just yet. hope he proves me wrong though.

My thinking with Cookie is that any team with Saville, Franklin, Rychart, Campbell should not need the coach to ensure the team is motivated. These guys are experienced players who should be ensuring that they and the rest of the team are suitably fired up for games. From the first few games of the season the team seems to lack intensity on defense.
Cookie should really only have to give these guys a structure within which to go to work. I think structurally the team would benefeit with Franklin playing more time at the 2 and Tait and Carter handling the 1. Campbell can back up the 2 and 3 spots really well.

Everyone tipping the Hawks? I'm going to go against the trend and tip Perth, they would be on a high after beating Tigers @ the cage.
This is the second of three games this week for the Cats, Spirit tomorrow and Hawks again later in the week, which doesn't look to good for the cats (who makes this schedule anyway it is piss poor) The Hawks are relying heavily on Dusty and Saville who I think the Wildcats can cover. So it may come down to depth where I think Perth have the edge. Wildcats, just, as long as they have no more injuries.
It would be good for a Hawks loss, it would keep the Blaze in touch with the other teams at the bottom

Normally 2 days between games should be fine for us and I'd happily tip the Cats. I'm just a little worried about the guys like Loughton & Hinson, who went into Wednesday's game under an injury cloud.
If they pulled up ok then we really should get this one.

Hopefully the real Kavossy plays tonight - the gun that carried Hawks most of last season.
So far in 08/09 he's the Hawks 6th leading scorer with 10ppg, just 1ppg ahead of 7th (Davidson) - though assists are up despite 10mins per game down on last year.
Just browsing nblstats, Larry is shooting 62% & 67% from deep, Campbell is also hitting over 50% inside and out.
Sav has been more effective on the road, than at the Sandpit -
Perhaps his 400th Hawks game will jump start things for Hawks?

The Cats should be full of confidence from nocking of the Tigers ( despite what seems to be another 4th qu fade out) and as long as those players who had those niggling injuries have pulled up alright they should win this game. Victor seemed to finish off alright in Melbourne, so I'm looking for a big game from him :D

What you might not see in the box scores is 3 unsportsmanlikes against the hawks (2 in the first 5:30 of the match), a double foul (Hinson and Tragardh from memory), and about 50 bazillion travels on both teams.

And in a world first a warning to Redhage from Roger Shiels about stepping over the free throw line early. Red then modified his shooting technique.
Hawks won the game by hanging in the game with decent defence and some huge offensive boards from Dusty Petrie and Sav. For Perth their only threats were Redhage who again was outstanding, Hinson and Victor. Are Weighs knees shot as he seems to be nowhere near the athletic slasher type that he was at the AIS and has turned into spotup(poor one at that) shooter. Ben Knight was terrible as was Crawford.Henry played Victor far to little. Defensively Perth were good and when they went into a zone in the third the Hawks stuggled loosing a 15 point lead.
Hawks were a much improved defensive unit tonight and the effort things were great. Sav had 10 or 12 early and then seemed to get caught up in some personal battles with Redhage that resulted in him jacking up aimless and contested 3 pointers, many of which resulted in an air ball. To his credit , just when yoou are convinced Sav had a shocker ( and in some ways he did) you look at the boxscores and see all the other contributions he brings to the table.
Hawks down by 7 or so with a couple to go and I thought they were gone, but they kept plugging away and from memory held the Cats scoreless in the last few minutes. Small crowd but lots of noise in that last two minutes and a great confidence boosting win.
As for Kavossy I never thought I would see the day when he had lost confidence, but at the moment he is a shodow of the player that we have come to respect for his fighting qualities.
Am a happy man tonight with the dream double. A Hawks win and a Blaze loss. It dont get any better.

Cats Final Quarter Fadeouts
Game 1: Got smashed away by the Dragons. Fadeout N/A
Game 2: Led by 12 at home against the Dragons. Managed to lose the game thanks to a 10 point 4th quarter.
Game 3: Can't find the play-by-play, but we had a lead well into the 20's chopped to 10 before steadying to beat GC by 14 at home.
Game 4: Massive lead all game, 26 points at 3Q time, had that cut to 12 but the home win over the Hawks was never in serious jeopardy
Game 5: 3 points down with 4:42 left in the game @ Townsville. Managed to lose that one by 17.
Game 6: 18 point lead @ the Cage with 10:36 left in the game. 8 minutes later the Tigers were in front. Recovered to get the win.
Game 7: 10 point turnaround in just over 2 minutes to lose to the Hawks on the road.

glen saville 5/22 FG (3/17 3pt) did all he can 4 a wildcats win but dusty rychart (1/1 3pt) only need one shot to kill things off, what a game winner.
why did saville shoot 17 3pts? he's never an A Class 3pt shooter. the hawks need to change their offensive system, campbell and tait should shoot more 3s, then franklin, then martin, then saville....
Steve
11-10-2008, 04:50 PM
Actually Saville is a fairly decent threat from the 3 point line. In 06/07 he hit 70 from 165 attempts at 42%.
With KF not contributing, it looks like Sav stepped up and did what was necessary to generate some points. The Hawks took 21 more shots than the Wildcats last night and that generated 24 offensive boards and 20 second chance points.
Sav is probably the most consistent offensive threat on that team, especially with KF going missing lately and Campbell looking older by the day, and the Hawks season will largely rest on his offensive output.
Last night sounds like it was scrappy, but it worked, and kudos to Cooks for making the necessary adjustments from 9 nights earlier to get the W.

For once I partially agree with your assessment of Sav. The problem was that lots of them lasrt night were not even wide open and were forced. He's a good enough 3 point shooter but it should not be his first option. Now to get back to reallity and your usual crap, to suggest that Tait should shoot more threes is like suggesting SOJ should. He is a very poor three poinbt shooter with shocking technique and that detracts from his ability to get into the lane. If you dont believe me just watch a game where the coach has done a decent scouting job. Campbell rarely left open and closed out on hard. Tait left pretty much open outside the arc and only token pressure. I like Tait but at the moment he is struggling.
Just decided to look at the NBL stats and was amazed to find that Tait shoots 39% career from three. Could have knocked me over. Does not take many and is often wide open so I guess he makes good decisions on when to take them.

At least 5 of Sav's threes were forced, generally to bail the team out in the dying stages of the shot clock.
Another was a half court heave.
Also mammon - those 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals Sav really helped Perth :?
