Shame you couldn't troll. Crawl back under you rock.
I don't hear you rallying the fans to keep the club going here like other loyal fans have been doing in the past.
Just another sniping troll and a bandwaggoner.

Especially when it's all second- or third-hand info, potentially a few days delayed, about how an owner may or may not be having real success negotiating with a possible buyer.

No I disagree....it is all for one and one for all in relation to a deadline for players to go elsewhere. Bradshaw was always unlikely and Brown was pretty much not wanted. That leaves a possible 8. It seems CJ and Dusty have looked after themselves, and Ebi has always harboured a desire to go back to the States in any case and may have left. If he goes to another NBL club it will be a money issue.(Understandably)
I think if good news comes before Friday, the following will be back:
MACKINNON
HILL
WILLIAMSON
BOUCHER
and maybe a fifth.
Half of the possible side is some nucleas to build on. Add two decent imports to a healthy Mackinnon and you have a competitive side at least. Far better than what we were looking like being left with a couple of weeks ago.

I think Gibson would have to be the priority signing as he will be the future of the club and most likely the franchise player in the next couple of seasons. If, as people are saying, about 5-6 players from last season stick around and Joey too then I think we can do alright. I'll definately renew my season ticket if we have a team that will compete and put in 100% every night even if being belted by 40+ points. Hell I'll go one better and say I'll renew my ticket if we just have a team :D

I should certainly hope you don't try to dazzle people with your vocabulary, because that would be like Seamus McPeake trying to dazzle people with his foot-speed. I too don't try to dazzle people -- it just seems you assume that I do because your own pitiful vocabulary causes you to be inadvertently dazzled when you read my posts (or, for that matter, anything more complicated than a Little Golden Book).

I didn't realise we were disputing whether I'm an "arrogant condescending dickhead" -- have I ever denied it? I'd be interested to know where you've proven I'm a "complete waste of space" (or proven anything at all in your life for that matter).

When was I ever not cool, calm and collected? You must be mistakenly thinking that because you go off your head when somebody has a go at you, that everybody else is equally lacking in self-control and self-esteem.
Whenever franny posts, I just shake my head and laugh at him. The only thing he's done that has actually bothered me is inciting his mate to pour a beer over my mate, and then showing his lack of class by gloating about it afterwards. No wonder he's felt that he had to change his username after that, in a lame attempt to run away from his disgraced identity.
And who insinuated(my vocab is improving by the minute) that your avatar was offensive? Yet you defend it as inoffensive.
No, I ridicule you for feeling so impotent that you desperately resort to attacking an inoffensive avatar (obviously your ignorance extends to the internet meme to which it refers) in a sad attempt to achieve some kind of victory, even if it's an utterly meaningless one in your own mind.

I think Ebi, Dusty and CJ were always going to go with the fall of the Groves regime. To my understanding there will be a reduced model for next season to run a tighter ship.
I think Sam is holding out as long as he can for personal reasons, so he is one definately wating for the deadline. I would be really surprised if Boucher went back to Perth, because it is further to NZ which is why he left. He couldn't have more than a couple of years left in the league, but I guess if you want a job you go where the action is.
I hope there is some base left for next season too.

When did the point cap crack three figures?
According to the points cap figures Curious suggested in the points cap thread, with the 7 players the Tigers have locked up, they have 30 free points to sign 3 more players - so 2 imports and a 10 pointer.
While I have no doubt to get Sam we would be in breach of the salary cap, the points cap ACTUALLY looks clear.

I think you have unfairly copped it from Havrilla but, to be fair, players will often tell people different things. One thing if they are close to them, and another if they're talking to a general fan (e.g., often, what they will want to hear).

Good post and nice pickup with the article. While it isn't great, it can't come as a surprise to anyone who has been following this. The fact that CJ hasn't already left speaks volumes, and despite best intentions of the club to retain players, the deal can't be finalised by weeks end meaning players will have to resort to their "plan B". Unless an announcement is somehow fast tracked or the players are happy to commit to the club on a promise, you can't blame them for looking after themselves. It is their employment after all.
At least the club has a pulse so to speak, a while back it looked like the Bullets would no longer exist. As disapointing as it is losing the big guns from the roster like Sam and CJ, it would be even worse and unimaginable to lose the club as well. Like the six million dollar man we can rebuild it!

There is an article in the Courier Mail this morning (can't find online) naming Logan based businessman David Kemp as the "saviour" of the Bullets. Article states he is the backer of the Logan Thunder WNBL franchise coming soon. He is boss of BDS (a shopfitting company) who I have never heard of but that means little.
Sounds promising but not yet finalised, it seems. Eddy may be umming and aahing about it? He has had their bid since Monday and is working some things out.
Further mentions Sam MacKinnon having to consider his options, and Joey Wright as well, who is on holiday in Fiji and will make up his mind on return.
At least it is some positive news on this front (CM has been very silent about it), but who can tell...
This is all in the article. I have no inside goss whatsoever.

CM yesterday (not on-line again) says the new owner (David Kemp-led consortium) may be confirmed by Tuesday, after Eddy discussed terms of a sale with Kemp on Thursday night.
Article mentions Kemp's "financial clout", which sounds good. Apparently Sam Mac and players have been kept informed of developments which "may stop core" of the team from splitting up.
Also says NBL's ratification of bid will be a formality if negotiations proceed.
I guess this has to be it. No other potential owners will come out of the woodwork now, and the team will be gone very soon you would think?
I also read an unrelated article on the news.com.au site about Eddy being glad he is not rich any more. He is still CEO of ABC, so there may be some sponsorship opportunities for the Bullets still? I will post it separately.

Well it certainly be interesting to see how this plans out for the players. I think if the Bullets could somehow keep a hold of McKinnon and Bruton, combine that with Gibson, Hill, Boucher, Williamson then pick up a couple of imports (I would have serious doubts on Ere, not sure about Dusty as he has been completely out of the media) they'll have a highly competitive team. Assuming Joey would also be willing to stay on. That's pretty much the best you could ask for at this point.

For me the two most important signings for various reasons were Gibson and Rychart. It looks like Gibbo will stay and it would be great if Sammy Mac and Bruton do the same, but good Aussie points are few and far between and with Dusty heading for Aussie citizenship he is a great bonus providing you could fit an additional import under the cap. I hope he stays providing we have a '5' of some description.
Brown and Bradshaw were probably gone in any case, Boucher is an important piece but is starting to need more ice than Stephen Black after games so you wonder how much more he has left in him. Williamson nice but not essential, Hill take it or leave it.
4 or 5 players being retained - particularly the big guns would be a sensational result.

This part is a bit of a worry from the above fox sports article...
The Bullets would continue playing out of the Brisbane Convention Centre at Southbank or move out to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre's Sports Complex with seating for almost 2,000 for the short term.
I know the convention centre has high costs, but a capacity at under 2000 is just too small. Plus how do the rules work exactly if bullets can play there and Dragons are not allowed to play January games in places like Geelong (capacity about 2500).
They might just have to look at double headers with the new WNBL Logan Thunder to keep costs down.

AFAIK Geelong only holds about 2000.

Good news that Kerlie is back.
Awesome news for Bullets fans...it really helps that the new owner seems to be quite familiar with the game as well.
I thought this was interesting, though, only because it doesn't mention Joey Wright..
The Bullets are back but now face the battle to retain their key players. CJ Bruton and Sam Mackinnon look certain to stay but superstar forward Ebi Ere, who is playing in South America, may be lost to the club.

All-round good news in that article. Owners who are financially responsible, board members with community ties and a very very experienced bloke in charge of the club. For all that I lost respect for Kerle as a coach over the years, I feel confident that he'll be an excellent GM and would work well with any coach. I do hope that Joey comes back, I think he's proven himself as an NBL coach. We can live without Ebi, he needs to focus on making the best of what's left of his career, but I pray that we can retain McKinnon and CJ for at least next season so as to get the franchise back on track.

Kemp has stitched up the first piece of the puzzle in retaining the core of the Bullets' on-court assets by reaching a fresh contract agreement with coach Joey Wright.

Can I ask why Kerle would make a good GM? What has he been doing recently that would suggest he'll be a good appointment?
I don't wish to challenge your opinion, but since the news article was brief I'm hoping you may be able to enlighten me.
Good news for the Bullets. If they can convince at least a couple of Gibson, Mack, CJ, Bradshaw and Hill to stay they should be able to put together another competitive unit. I hope they all stay, but that maybe asking too much.

kerle is good thing for the new ownership to bring into the team as gm, as many fans who would have supported the bullets in the 80s into 90s would remember and associate kerle with the team. Much like Heal to the kings, Gaze to the Tigers. Perfect marketing A+

I like Kerle because he's been involved in basketball for a long time. He should know what goes on with regards running an NBL club because he's been there as a coach, and short of getting a GM from another club you're going to be hard pressed to find someone who has that kind of knowledge. He didn't just abandon basketball either when he stopped coaching at the top level so I'd guess he has a good grasp of what goes on locally in QLD and I think that's important. He's got business experience and the reality for him is that he's had to live in the real world for a while so it gives him good perspective. The last thing about him is that he genuinely cares about the club and basketball in general. That's easily the hardest thing to find in a GM and behind his years of experience it's probably Kerle's greatest asset.

Kerle was one of the pioneers of marketing the NBL successfully in the late 80s and early 90s. He didn't just coach the Bullets back then, but is credited with doing a lot behind the scenes that led to the 12,000+ crowds at Boondall and developed a lot of good relationships with sponsors, corporates etc.
He brought guys like Derek Rucker and Andre Moore among many other good players to Australia too.
Lately I think he's being working with the government on a project that thanks coaches and officials for their contributions to sport.
Has an excellent understanding of the game, the sports marketplace and a wealth of contacts. Also people simply know and remember his name & success.
Great hire imho.

Totally agree. In a GM/marketing type role Cal would be perfect. He's likable, gets along well with the corporates and loves the game and the league. We need all these kinds of guys to be as involved as possible.

first the Kings appoint Rucker as marketing manager.... now the Bullets have Kerle as GM?????
A lot has changed since the glory days so I hope Kerle can adapt. I don't expect Sam to return and CJ remains a mystery. Ebi won't return and I've heard Bradshaw won't either. Could be a challenge selling a new look, (budget) team.

Dave Claxton put the consortium together in the first place. The guy was always going to take the role as head of Blaze. I wouldn't consider Claxton to be "marketing coup"..Heal yes, Claxton definately not.

The unfortunate thing is GM and marketing type are not one in the same..A guy in spiffy shoes and car salesman lingo won't draw many peripheral fans to a game. Basketball in this country has far more deep seated issues than a lack of marketing prowess.

I absolutely loathe the signing of Kerle as GM, and think it is a step backward for the Bullets.
Many people seem to forget how well Kerle fared in his second stint with the Bullets. They were an absolute train wreck. Remember Shelden Quarles, Thaddeous Delaney along with all the other misfits? They were all hand-picked by Kerle. Not a great track record in coming back to the club. I shudder to think who'd he want to sign. He is also notorious for rubbing players the wrong way as well.
Mr Kemp either hasn't gotten over his Kerle circa-80s crush, or he is hoping for a cheap fix on the marketing front.

Maybe, but it makes up at least 50% of the NBL's immediate problems, and even then, rectifying the rest is useless if no-one knows about it.

Mr Ben, I wonder though with Joey back as head coach what involvement Brian would actually have on the recruitment front. I would think Joey would be the go to guy when trying to attract good imports to the team.

I wouldn't say a backward step. All JVG ever did was hand out blank cheques to players. He did absolutely nothing to promote the game in Brisbane. I think what he may lack in experience in a NBL GM role he'll make up with genuine passion for the club and basketball as a whole.
However yes I agree his concept of recruiting was way off. You forgot to name the import who without a doubt was the worst to come to the NBL, Khari Jaxon. He would have been lucky to get a gig in GBL.

I think Kerle should always have been given a Bullets front office job when he was sacked as coach of the Bullets. It seems to me that his strengths have always been in recruiting & promoting...and the wins he got were because of getting good players...not really from good coaching. Personally, I don't think that those imports were all THAT bad...I think Kerle probably tried to do the best he could with the money given to him at the time. We'll see what impact his third stint at the Bullets brings...
I second the motion of the cheergirls (preferably with big permed 80's hair, the Bundy Big Band...that one's serious, and Mushy)

Email from Narelle indicating that coach and GM will be talking to players today. Hopefully we can lock down CJ, Gibson, Williamson, Hill and Boucher as a bare minimum. Dusty and Sam give the impression that they'll be tougher to keep but it would be a core group of 7 players that would go a long way to making the Bullets a strong outfit next season. Need to add an import and some local size to take up space in the middle but I'm sure between Kerle and Joey they'd be able to rustle up a few candidates.

None that are suitable for a national league. It's either the BCEC or the BEC.
