Screener's defender to jump and show their number on the dribbler, slowing their progress so the screened player can fight through and pick up their man. Then quickly recover to the rolling screener. Both need to be aware of screener diving and be ready to react to this.
This is a vital part of the game these days. From the NBL right down to juniors more and more coaches are basing their offence around on balls (me included) Basically how you handle the on ball decides if you win or lose. We spend a lot of time working on this
I like to mix it up,
I like to teach my guys to call the screens and then call a number i.e
On Ball coming left ONE
the numebrs indicate which defense they guys will use
for penetrators sometimes the screeners defender can take a big step abck adn let the on ball defender under the screen.
for shoters, penetrators, you can double team the ball hard, this is why its important to shout out the numebr loud, coz if you double a on ball, you are left with a 3-4 disadvantage, so i like the 3 guys to zone off.
can switch hard.
can hedge and fight over the screen
also can fake the double team to scare and then pick off a bad pass
Normally what i would go with if i wasn't coachng a team tactics, i like to double and zone off...

The middle pick and roll with Heal and Nielsen was near perfection. It's almost impossible to prevent a good shot when you have a step back shooter like Heal, and a mobile big man like Nielsen.
Here is a great site with diagrams on how to distrupt on balls. I think they have a diagram for almost every possibility:
http://www.cybersportsusa.com/hooptacti ... reenob.asp (http://www.cybersportsusa.com/hooptactics/coaching/coachscreenob.asp)
I'm coaching girls at the moment, and it's rare to find players that will shoot over a screen, so I'll be ducking under, or aggressively switching on all on balls.
Hooptactics is great site, i am always using that to get advice after i scout teams and what they do..
they have disruptions for alot of commonly used offenses,

Same thing Phil Jackson has used for 14 odd years.
Never seen anything that is so effective and easy to trap out of. Teams just shoot themselves in the foot for you.
